Summer Quilt Shows


MANHATTAN, KANSAS

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI

Rent a car. Take in the exhibit at the The National Archives Museum there.  Partisan Pieces: Quilts of Political and Patriotic Persuasion, curated by Kathy Moore, is a traveling exhibit from the International Quilt Study Center & Museum. LAWRENCE, KANSAS

Drive west on I-70 to Lawrence, Kansas, where the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas has a show of their quilts called Quilting Time and Space through August 29th. Curated by University student interns, the exhibit "will explore cross-cultural connections through the art of quilting," using antique and contemporary quilts to represent "confluences of tradition and place." LAWRENCE, KANSAS
Odd Aviary at the Community Mercantile

Have a latte and a chocolate chip scone at the Community Mercantile grocery store at 9th and Iowa where Linda Frost has a small show of her work in the dining room. Odd Aviary will be up through the end of July.



MANHATTAN, KANSAS

Continue west on I-70 to Manhattan, Kansas. Kansas State University has the first show of their quilts up at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum on campus. Pieces of Time: Quilts from K-State's Historic Costume and Textile Museum will be on display through September 12th.
The quilt above, a 19th-century patriotic quilt, will be in the exhibit. Click here for information:

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA

Turn North on Highway 77 and drive to Lincoln, Nebraska to visit the quilt museum at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. The two shows up now are:
Quilts Under the Microscope through August 1st and South Asian Seams: Quilts from India, Pakistan, & Bangladesh through November 7th.  Childhood Treasures: Doll Quilts from the Ghormley Collection is scheduled to open August 6th.

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN

Head out on I-80 east towards Milwaukee, Wisconsin (not part of the Great Plains---Milwaukee is on the Great Lakes and there is a great show of antique quilts there.) The Milwaukee Art Museum is the last stop on the tour of the Winterthur Museum's Quilts in a Material World, curated by Linda Eaton.
