I know it's past, but I want to alert you to a Thanksgiving experience that has had me contorting with laughter for days.
My three favorites are among the winner and the honorable mentions.
There is something beyond hilarious at family dysfunction around Holidays, when everybody is trying so hard not to rip each other to pieces.
People can't wait til Christmas so they can share whatever horror happened then.
God love em. For some reason, this restores my faith in humanity. I don't know why.

Swiss Miss
Today I read on the news that voters in Switzerland overwhelmingly approve of a ban on building minarets in mosques. The right wing party that supports the ban claims it is a step to avoid the islamization of Switzerland. They claim minarets are not religious, but political symbols. By the way, the call to prayer is banned in this country. Switzerland, of course, prides itself, besides its watches, chocolates and shady banking, on its strong democracy, so these developments present an interesting conundrum. Understandable reactions are of shock at the intolerance. I find it hard to buy the notion that a minaret is a political tool, particularly if you can't use it to broadcast the call to prayer to begin with. In a way, it's like banning churches from having bell towers. Absurd.
What the ban seems to be saying is, you and your religion are not totally welcome here. And in this here democracy, you are going to toe the line. If you don't like it, go to Iran.
This, I believe, is a corollary from the utter terror Western democracies feel about radical Islam. This equally understandable fear would have never taken hold if Islamic fundamentalists had not decided to go on their murderous rampages against the West. Nobody would think to bother with minarets.
What does not assuage Western fears is that moderate Islam seems ineffectual against the crazies. Moderation is by nature timid; obviously it will have much less impact than a beheading. And I am convinced that even moderate Muslims are deeply afraid of the radicals in their religion. They don't seem to be coming out in droves to condemn them or reject them, and this silence, this lack of moderate leadership (understandable in a religion that also has different warring factions) makes everyone deeply nervous.
Elsewhere in this blog I have opined that if you are a Jew, a Muslim or a member of the Church of Elvis, and you live in a secular democracy, you have to follow the law of the land. Deeply intolerant people take advantage of tolerant political systems, and then the tolerant become intolerant towards the intolerant, which is now the case in places like Britain, France and now Switzerland.
Unfortunately, this polarization, this lack of a middle ground, seems to inflame religious passions, which doesn't help. I wish it would spur the moderate majority of Muslims both in the West and elsewhere to reject the psychopaths and to profess their faith in peace with the rest of us, infidels.

Human-Powered Monorail Flies Through the Skies
What could be more fun than gliding along on an eco-chic bicycle? How about shooting through the skies in a pedal-powered monorail capsule! A bunch of entrepreneuring New Zealanders has created just such a human-powered monorail system, known as the Shweeb. Their creation does double duty, acting not just as an innovative transportation system, but also an amusement ride. Are our cities the next step?

Morris Feathered Star
Roseanne Smith has been working on this feathered star using prints from my William Morris reproduction collection from Moda The Morris Workshop.
She got her pattern from a Marsha McCloskey book. Marsha specializes in these stars with lots of little triangles, a style she calls "Really Hard Blocks That Take a Long Time". The pattern for the star block is in Marsha's book Feathered Star Quilt Blocks I (it's Feathered Star II). The pattern for the whole quilt is in Roseanne's head. She plans two more borders.
You may recall a few months ago we posted a picture of the blocks in progress and an alert blog follower noticed she had a triangle upside down. Roseanne has fixed it. The block picture is really a more accurate color representation of the fabric and the quilt top. But you get the idea.
I am looking forward to the next border. I think it involves lots of little triangles.

Barbarians at the BBQ
When reality TV "would-be characters" impose themselves into the White House and onto the world-wide stage, circumventing decorum, a lax inner staff of official gate keepers and a woefully irresponsible Secret Service detail, there is a problem. The events of the first State dinner of the Obama Presidency were so surreal that it boggles the mind and casts doubts as to what's real and what's television. The line between the two is as blurred as the vision of those supposedly in charge of order and security. It's particularly galling that an occasion as auspicious as this would be tainted with such low brow, vulgar high jinks. I am surprised, but then again, little surprises me anymore. I guess disappointment gets closer to my feeling about the unnecessary breach.The interlopers, a myopic, bottle blonde and her good ole boy husband are campaigning for a spot on Housewives of D.C.. She, the definition of the ambitious actress and he is her feckless accomplice. Her Face Book page and 4000 friends tells her sordid tale on a daily basis. Their lives are designed around a relentless search for celebrity. Every action they take is informed by their desire to ascend one more rung of the ladder. Their names are unimportant. We can call them Legion, as they symbolize so many and so much that has gone off in our society. When researching their information which appears on the Internet, I was also not surprised to see that beyond their ambition they have a long list of civil suits against them still pending. According to today's New York Times, they are also heavily in debt due to their many charities, Polo playing and Virginia wine country promotions. Sounds like everyone else we see or know: broke, and like squirrels trying to get a nut.That in itself isn't so heinous in this day and age, but that they would manage to insinuate themselves into the dinner and have their pictures taken with everyone from Rahm Emanuel, Vice President Biden and the President, himself, is a little staggering. All of it is lovingly displayed on the FaceBook page for the 4000 of their dearest friends and the rest of the world to see.
Entering the White House is not that simple as I have first hand experience. I was invited for lunch during the Clinton administration. You have to show 2 forms of identification along with your invitation. Forget any of the 3 items and you simply don't get past the guard house. I found out an even tougher lesson when I left after the lunch, only to have forgotten my coat with all those necessary pieces of paper inside. It was an hour before the guards returned it. It was maddening, but there was no running back in to grab it. If the layers of security were that thick for lunch and a forgotten coat, you'd think a State dinner would be even more so. Maybe if I'd been a blonde on a mission I could have charmed my way past the sentries and dispensed with the tiresome proofs of identity, as well as, an invitation or any other explanation for that matter. Had it been others of a more unconventional appearance, would they be celebrities today on their way to Larry King Live? Or would they be spending their fourth night in the Big House, busy making new friends?
Where the fault lays in all of this is a mystery that certainly will end with a scapegoat. This office will point at that one which will be pointing back at it and another. In the end some one in the Secret Service will get his walkie-talkie recalled and be demoted to the White House Tour detail. If you consider that their initial attempt to enter by way of a limousine was thwarted, some alert Agent was on the ball. But when they were seen exiting the car, getting a last minute touch-up by their make-up person and all of this being captured with their very own camera crew, then walked up to take their places in the line of guests waiting to enter, someone in charge misplaced the official clip board. They were announced as they queued for the receiving line which normally calls for one to hand your official invitation to the handsome Marine standing at the entrance to the room where the President awaits. There are armies of people there to make sure all is in order, with the Social Secretary having the last and final word. Just the fact that this is the first Black President to take office, I wonder why there is such a loose attitude towards his protection. He had better security during his campaign. What happened to the concern? Where was Desiree Rogers? Was she distracted with other things to make sure the proper protocols were being followed? Maybe she forgot she was on the clock and thought she was another glamorous invited guest. She looked like it. I couldn't help thinking that the part of the White House Staff Handbook that says the Social Secretary has a responsibility to put her job first and keep her lowered profile second got lost in translation. She's been uncharacteristically quiet in all of this.
What might have been a magical night wasn't. Barbarians stormed the gates and our First Lady wore the creation of a designer from India, out of deference to the honored Prime Minister Singh and his wife. Michelle dressed like a guest and not like the wife of our President. Mistakes were made that on a scale of 1-10......well, you can do the math for yourselves. The decision is purely subjective. After all, who am I to make that judgment? I was only invited to lunch.

Edward pun melindungi bella dengan sekuat tenaga, dan vampire yang lain memegangi Jasper. BElla pun ditangani oleh dr.Cullen yang memang sudah kebal akan bau darah.

5 bulan selanjutnya, Bella sudah bisa berfikir jernih dan dia menemui sahabat kecilnya Jacob black untuk mengusir semua mimpi buruk dan masa lalunya, serta ia ingin membuka lembaran hidupnya yang baru setelah kepergian edwards. Bella pun bisa tersenyum lagi dan bersemangat menjalani hari-harinya.
Saat sedang hiking sendiri ke hutan untuk mengunjungi telaga sabit dimana dulu ia menghabiskan waktunya bersama Edward, Bella tak sengaja bertemu dengan Laurent, vampire teman James yang dulu sempat membuat bella berdarah-darah karena "permainan" dengan keluarga Cullen, Laurent pun menyerang Bella dan ketika hendak menghabisi Bella datanglah gerombolan Srigala raksasa menyelamatkan Bella, Laurent pun kabur. Bella pun syok dan tak habis pikir mengenai srigala yang malah menolongnya dan tidak menyerangnya sama sekali. Fikiran Bella makin kalut karena mendengar omongan Laurent bahwa victoria vampir pasangan james masih juga memburunya
Kisah pun berlanjut sampai Bella kembali bertemu Edward di sebuah kota di Italia. kota kecil tersebut dikelilingi gedung - gedung tua bernama Volterra yang dikuasai keluarga Vampir tertua bernama Volturi, mereka berkuasa sejak zaman Etruria, sekitar 3000 tahun yang lalu. Apa sebenarnya yang menyebabkan Edward bisa berada di kota sarang Vampire tersebut? Dan kenapa Bella bisa sampai di Italia? NEW MOON lah Jawabannya.

PENGUMUMAN DAN INFORMASI CPNS SE-JAWA TIMUR TERBARU
PEMPROV dan PEMKAB/PEMKOT Jawa Timur akan melaksanakan ujian saringan CALON PEGAWAI NEGERI SIPIL (CPNS) dari pelamar umum, adapun yang dibutuhkan adalah Tenaga Kependidikan, Tenaga Kesehatan, Tenaga Teknis, dan Atlit/Pelatih Olahraga berprestasi. Adapun syarat dan ketentuannya adalah :
- WNI
- Per tanggal 1 Januari 2010 usia pelamar minimal 18 tahun maksimal 35 tahun, atau 40 tahun bagi pelamar yang bekerja pada lembaga pemerintah/swasta yang berbadan hukum yang menunjang kepentingan nasional dengan mempunyai masa kerja sekurang-kurangnya 5 tahun pada tanggal 17 April 2002 atau 12 tahun 7 bulan pada tanggal 1 Januari 2010,yang dibuktikan dengan fotokopi sah, SK bukti pengangkatan pertama dan terakhir atau surat keteranga bekerja secara terus-menerus.
- Mempunyai pendidikan, kecakapan, keahlian, dan keterampilan yang diperlukan sesuai dengan kualifikasi jabatan dan pendidikan yang dibutuhkan.
- Tidak pernah dihukum penjara / kurungan berdasarkan putusan pengadilan yang mempunyai kekuatan hukum yang tetap, karena melakukan suatu tindak pidana kejahatan.
- Tidak pernah diberhentikan secara tidak hormat atas permintaan sendiri atau tidak dengan hormat sebagai PNS/BUMN/BUMD/Pegawai Swasta.
- Tidak berkedudukan sebagai Calon/Pegawai Negeri Sipil.
- Berkelakuan baik.
- Sehat Jasmani dan Rohani.
- Bagi pelamar tenaga guru SD yang masih berpendidikan D.II/A.II PGSD bersedia melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang sarjana SI/A.IV apabila diterima.
- Bagi pelamar tenaga kependidikan yang mempunyai ijasah non kependidikan, maka wajib memiliki akta IV sesuai ijasah yang diperoleh.
- Bagi pelamar yang merupakan pengurus atau anggota PARPOL harus bersedia melepaskan jabatan/pengurus dari anggota PARPOL apabila nantinya dinyatakan LULUS seleksi CPNS.
